Elizabeth Avenue, Hove

This 1970s house had been poorly maintained and insulated, requiring new doors and windows throughout, new gable ends, external insulation retrofitted to the upper side walls and an extension over the veranda to create a more usable office/third bedroom.

Remedial work to open up the existing kitchen allowed our client to live in the house more comfortably until the bigger renovation project could start

Scaffolding erected and work has begun.

The 'boat roof' at the back of the house was replaced with a raised flat roof and large solar-powered velux

We also removed an internal wall between two very small front bedrooms to create one larger, more usable bedroom

Both gable ends needed to be rebuilt, as the existing walls were uninsulated and dressed with 1970s aluminium cladding

Almost all first floor walls were rebuilt, allowing us to create a larger ensuite for the master bedroom and increasing the width of the narrow landing

New gable wall completed. With window openings to line up with doors to garage below.

Underfloor heating system installed throughout ground floor and first floor.

Both upper and lower stairs were clad in oak treads and risers. A velux was added in the upper stairwell and the arch replaced with a raised lintel

Head height to the lower room was significantly improved by working with Total Building Control to chamfer the ceiling

Deep soffits required a different approach, so soffit boards were installed front to back

We worked closely with a local window company who installed the Origin windows, doors and bifolds throughout

There are a total of six veluxes, five of which are solar-powered requiring

The house was rewired throughout. Additional touches included bespoke lighting cord to complement the client's colour scheme and a neon-inspired sign over the lower stairs

Ensuite bathroom installed to client spec with fully tiled floor and walls.

Bathrooms were fully tiled, with underfloor heating and solar-powered Velux rooflights.

Bespoke built in wardrobes with internal lighting and storage.

Cost-efficient built-in wardrobes combined Ikea Pax cabinets and internal fittings with painted MDF doors and motion-sensor lighting

Oak flooring laid throughout the property with contemporary skirting board and architraves.

Two new velux roof windows fitted in the lounge as well as a new log burner.

Old boiler removed from utility. New units and stone worktops installed.

Our work even extended to removing large quantities of concrete from the multi-level garden, pragmatically adapting existing structures ready for rendering and laying a new patio

The original veranda was replaced with an extension to provide extra space in the ground floor bedroom/office and to add a shower in the adjoining bathroom
"We wouldn't have trusted anyone else with our renovation. Nick got us back home in our 6-month timescale, managed the trades and checked the quality of all the work, and his problem-solving skills were put to the test many times!"
